Morgantown Utility Board was created in 1987 by the city of Morgantown under the provisions of the Combined Waterworks and Sewerage Systems Act (WV Code 8-20-1). The former Morgantown Water Commission and the Morgantown Sanitary Board were merged to create Morgantown Utility Board.

Leadership

MUB is led by current General Manager Mike McNulty who provides operational and strategic oversight of the organization. The GM is accountable to MUB's board of directors which consists of five residents selected from the area served. The board members are appointed by Morgantown City Council for terms of five years and provide complete governance oversight of the organization. The board selects a chair and other officers from its members annually.
